Who are we?

We have rides beginning in all Down island towns (Edgartown including Chappy, Oak Bluffs, and  Vineyard Haven)

Our rides wind through the secret heart of the Vineyard.  From paved backroads to beachside trails, sunlit bike paths to shaded pine forests, our routes meander deep into the island’s hidden core. Whether we’re rolling down a canopy road, spinning across a lowland barren, or gliding through the twilight hush of a backwoods trail, each ride reveals a side of the Vineyard most never see.

These aren’t rides you’ll find on Google Maps — they’re the ones whispered about by those who truly know the island.

What are the rides like?

Fun! We have 2 rules; 1) Have fun! 2) Don’t get hurt.

If you do not have fun on your ride, we haven’t done our job.

The island is an amazing place, even more so when seen from an e-bike. Each and every ride is different and as special as our lovely island. There is, however, a general flow to all of the rides.

All Down-island rides begin on pavement allowing everyone to get comfortable on their bikes. We will then make our way to the beautiful trails of Martha’s Vineyard. The pace will vary depending upon the terrain although normally average between 8 and 12 mph.

We will stop somewhere between 30 – 45 minutes into the ride for a rest stop. After the rest stop, we will ride predominantly on trails through some of the most beautiful parts of our home island for another 30-60 minutes. After another rest stop (longer than the first) we will head back to where we started (or where the ride terminates) through a combination of off-road trails and pavement.

How long are the rides?

Because each group is different, we do not guarantee a specific duration. Rides typically last about 2.5 hours plus or minus 30 minutes. Each ride will cover between 8-16 miles with a minimum of 2 stops and sometimes more depending upon the group.

Do I need to have my own e-bike?

No. If you do not have your own e-bike, you can either rent one at any of the local bike rental shops on the island. There are Bike stores that rent e-bikes near the start of each of our rides. When you check out we will suggest the rental location nearest to the ride start. Alternatively, we will be happy to provide a bike for you should you wish. Just select the option upon check-out.

Where do you ride?

We have rides in all Down island towns (Edgartown including Chappy, Oak Bluffs, and Vineyard Haven) with select Up-Island rides as well. Private Rides are available for your group throughout the island.

How much biking experience do I need?

While there is no need to have ridden in the Tour de France, it is important that you are comfortable on a bicycle. While not required it is beneficial to have experience riding an e-bike. All the rides begin with a stretch of riding on pavement which provides the group an opportunity to get more comfortable with their bikes. We will be riding the majority of the time on Martha’s Vineyard’s beautiful trails. Mountain biking experience is not needed as most of the trails we will be riding are predominantly flat.

Why is there a minimum age limit of 21?

Because OTBT E-Bike tours is 420 friendly, we are unable to have anyone under the age of 21 ride with us.

What else should I know?

We take safety very seriously so please make sure you have an approved bike helmet– No helmet, no ride. While we will be stopping, because of the ‘off the beaten trail nature of the rides we may not be near amenities. We therefore encourage each rider to bring water and/or the non-alcoholic beverage of your choice as well as food.

What do we do if it rains?

Should it look like inclement weather for when the ride is scheduled, we will notify all participants the night before that we must cancel the ride. We will make every effort to reschedule all participants, although because of the limited size of our tours, we cannot guarantee it.

Do you offer refunds?

Should we cancel the ride for any reason (usually weather) all money will be refunded. Unfortunately, because of the limited size of each ride, we cannot provide refunds for any other reasons.
